Hello my name is Martina Aumua Lifestyle & Fitness Coach
Originally from California ,I moved to New Zealand in 1993 and have recently relocated back to the United States in 2008 due to family circumstances. In New Zealand I had my own fitness studio AVIVA Lifestyle LTD. (Whangaparaoa) relocated and worked as a Personal Trainer for In Shape Health Club (Mount Mauganui). I was the flexibility & core strength coach for the Bay of Plenty Rugby Team and Master Kesi’s Olympic Tae Kwon Do Black Belt team.
Classically trained in Ballet and Jazz dance with over 20 years experience as a dancer/teacher/choreographer, I was owner operator of the Theater Dance Academy studio for 9 years. I have taught for full time dance schools, local dance companies and organized several community dance projects and talent quest’s. I have danced professionally in the United States, Japan, and New Zealand but found teaching was my true passion.
In my community I served as a board member for the Rodney District Arts Council involved with various community projects and the founding member of the Estuary Arts Center.
In Nov. 1999 I was diagnosed clinically depressed, put on anti-depressants and sent to a psychiatrist. I had anxieties, phobias, self- destructive lifestyle habits and was over weight. I had enough of being on anti- depressants and I did not want my son’s to remember me as the person I had become. I wanted a more holistic approach towards my healing so I decided to go back to school, set a goal that was bigger than myself and continue to work towards it. I read just about every self help book, attended various workshops and seminars and as part of my own healing I founded and organized the ‘Women In Action Lifestyle Makeover Workshops’
I obtained my certification in 2001 and became my first client. My goal was to compete in a Body Building competition and work my way towards Nationals. Although I was still teaching dance, I missed performing on stage and thought why not? My first competition (2001) I placed 1st , excited that ‘I did it! ‘ the whole the experience encouraged my competitive edge and motivated me to keep moving forward. Within five years I obtained several titles as a figure champion making my way to the 2004 Nationals where I met my future husband. We started training together and competed in mixed pairs winning our way to national level. We married 14 February 2006.
It has been an incredible journey and I have learned many lesson’s. It’s a wonderful feeling when you can make it through to the end of a day and say ‘That was a great day.’ One of the most powerful lesson’s I learned was, action creates emotion. If you do nothing, nothing happens but if you move… many things are possible.
Currently I am blessed to enjoy a wonderful life with my husband, being back in my homeland reconnecting with friends and family and embracing a new transition. I continue to learn for each day has a lesson. As a parent I want to be a mentor for my son’s by taking preventative medicine so they will not have to look after me when I age. For me this is not a 12 week program but a lifetime commitment.
